Blog Social networking

Technology and social networking can be a great resource for many people. It can help people connect to friends and family from all over the world. The distance gap no longer exists and that is thanks to the advancement in technology. While technological advances have its advantages, it can also be deemed detrimental especially for the youth. Since the dawn of social media, there has been a concern of cyberbullying and now that social media is as large as it ever was, more kids are suffering from cyberbullying which can lead to depression and other mental illnesses. According to the New York Times article "Antisocial Networking?", children no longer spend time with each other in real life. Instead, they chat online through social media and text messages which can be troubling because the lack of human interaction can have drastic effects on the mental state of children. The convenience factor of technology has caused people to become very closeted because almost anything can be done in the comfort of one's own home. Using technology as the only source of interaction is can have very dangerous implications. The best way to utilize today's technology is to find a balance between how much time spent online and reality. Technology has come a long way and the internet is an endless pit of information where social media, among other things, lives.

Technology and social media have helped many people throughout the years. One of the larger effects it had was during the 2008 presidential election where former president Barack Obama utilized social network as a resource to help him gain voters and eventually win the election. According to the New York Times article "How Obama Tapped Into Social Network's Power", Obama did not do anything new. All he did was use social network to help him in his election. He was able to reach millions of supporters in an instant through social media and email. Being able to reach all his supporters all across America helped him get an edge on the other candidates.

Technology is constantly evolving. Even our most advanced piece of technology can be improved. This is evident from the fact that we used to use phones only to call people, but now our phones are like mini computers that has an unlimited amount of knowledge and can contact people from all over the world while playing Candy Crush at home. Years from now, technology will be a more powerful resource than today. With the advancements in Virtual Reality and ability to get almost anything shipped to your house, there will be a day where people do not need or want to leave their homes. Life will become a part of the internet and reality as we know it will become much different than the past.
